Elliot's Cafe

Not your average cafe

Elliot's Cafe is a modern cafe in Borough Market serving contemporary European cuisine using seasonal ingredients, it had gained a reputation of serving top notch burgers but I was more interested in the dinner menu which was similar to a tapas format. On the menu were mostly small sharing plates with daily specials such as lamb neck and whole trout depending on supplies.

We opted for a few small plates to share as well as a daily special of wing rib beef. The lamb onglet reminded me a lot like a Greek dish with its cucumber and yogurt dressing, the lamb was smoky and tender but the portion was a little too small for my liking. The pigeon with pear and beetroot was wonderful with its mellow earthy and fruity taste, the whole dish was well seasoned with fresh and clean flavours. The 35 days dry aged Dexter wing rib was a real beast, the beef was so soft and moist, packed with robust and luxurious tastes, the edge had a lovely smoky crispiness and the overall quality was as good as the steak specialist Hawksmoor.

I am a fan of Elliot's Cafe's simplicity in its cooking, all the flavour combinations worked great and really made the ingredients shine out in the dishes. The relaxing atmosphere and friendly service also was a big plus, this is a great place for catching up with friends and great food, and perhaps the best Borough Market has to offer.
