Street food special

London street food adventure

Over the past few weeks, I spent
sometime visiting the finest street food vendors across London, for the first time I visited the ever popular "Kerb" event and "Real Street Food Festival" in Southbank in April and it really opened up my eyes after tasting some top level street food with the inspiration coming from around the world. Here are some of the highlights over the two weekends:

Bao

Bao is one of the hottest street food vendors in London right now, with a numbers of awards including the Young British Foodie 2013. They had taken the infamous Taiwanese gua bao to perfection with Londoners falling in love with its well executed braised pork belly wrap in a light soft bun. The quality of Bao's buns are second to none and even better than some of the top dim sum restaurants in Hong Kong that provide similar offerings.

Bleecker St. Burger

You can see the Bleecker St. Burger van parked over Southbank every weekend and its burgers have proven to be extremely popular and it is easy to understand why, once you get your hands on those mouthwatering burgers. Cooked medium rare using quality cuts of beef from well sourced farms across the UK, cooked in a New York style, packed full of powerful and meaty flavours. One of the finest burgers from street vendors in London.

Crabbieshack

Crabbieshack is all about soft shell crab sandwiches, the beauty of soft shell crab is that you would not have to deal with the crab shell and can dive into the whole crab due to the baby crab shell still being undeveloped and full of earthy and robust flavours. You can get to chose a set of garnishes and my choice couldn't be better with fennel, almond, avocado and harissa, which offers freshness and creamy texture to offset the richness of the tempura batter crab.

Kimchinary

Korean food is on the rise in London, but Kimchinary is no ordinary Korean food truck. They came up with the idea to infuse popular Korean street food elements with its Mexican counter part. A burrito that contains slow braised bulgogi ox cheek with kimchi fried rice, cheddar and sour cream. The result is a juicy burrito that has bold and spicy flavours with an authentic oriental touch.

The Frenchie

Th Frenchie has been going around in London for a few years but I only just discovered this and gosh haven't I missed out. The confit duck burger is one of the most exciting burgers I've encountered and the taste was blessed with French elegance. The confit duck was packed with richness and the chutney really blended in nicely with the smoked cheddar. Finished off with crunches of crispy duck skin and truffle honey, we have a French burger that is as awesome as a burger can get.
