Tim Ho Wan

Value for money dim sum

Tim Ho Wan

By far the the cheapest restaurant ever awarded one star in the Michelin guide, Tim Ho Wan is a dim sum specialist in Hong Kong. Now it has somewhat become a mini chain with five branches strong and three of those awarded a Michelin star each. Personal I don't really have much faith in the Hong Kong Michelin guide as the standard generally is a lot lower than its UK counterpart, I returned to Tim Ho Wan for one reason only, its outstanding value for money dim sum.

The signature baked BBQ pork buns were as good as ever, hot crispy surface with plenty of moist sweet pork meat fillings. Shrimp wrapped in bean curd skin was not too oily and had a rich oyster sauces clothing which was very pleasant. Sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf had a mixture of pork, shrimp and mushroom and it was freshly steamed to a great quality.

The dim sum at Tim Ho Wan was as ever reliable, price vs value wise it is simply one of the best in Hong Kong. Forget about Michelin, this is all about having quality dim sum in a hurry. You need to treat this place like a fast food venue, as just like many Hong Kong Chinese cheap eats, you are mostly likely to be rushed to leave as soon as you finish your food.
