Barrica

Tapas bar in  Fitrovia

Barrica

It is hard to beat some well cooked Spanish tapas with a glass of cava on a hot summer night, and Barrica is one of the few tapas bars that has a Michelin bib gourmand in London and it has always been a crowd pleaser from day one. I had eaten at its sister restaurant: Copita del Mercado not long ago and I was generally really impressed especially when you consider the value you are getting. As soon as I found out Barrica also did a fabulous offer for early evening: 3 course for £16.50 with a glass of cava, I had no excuse not to pay it a visit.

The giant grilled king prawns had a delightful shellfish aroma and it tasted devine, the meat was so smooth and sweet, plus the juice in the prawn heads were really rich and bold and as far as prawns goes in London, few can rival that kind of quality at that price. Roasted hake was a personal favourite on the night, great seasoning and the meat was so moist and sightly buttery, simply cooked but using top ingredients, as how good tapas should be. The tender hanger steak was served medium rare, finely sliced with layers of robust and lovely smoky flavours, the perfect combination with the sweet caramelized onion. Cinnamon and sesame fritters was a fun dessert, mild sweet and spicy with a smooth custard finish, very enjoyable.

Dinner at Barrica was such a joy, with an extra course from the regular menu, we spend less than £50 for two people which is something not easy to pull off in London if you after  some top quality tapas. Another big plus about this place is the decoration and atmosphere, tiny but lively and buzzing, this is what a good tapas bar is all about. For any wine lovers, the tapas bar also has a great selection of sherry and Spanish wines at a very affordable price, at such a central location with humble service, it is hard not to love a place like Barrica.
