Beast

Super combo

Hello Mr crab

Beast is a rather unusual high end restaurant in Marylebone. It is from the Goodman Group, the same people behind the wonderful steak joint Goodman and the affordable Burger and Lobster. The philosophy behind Goodman Group's restaurants are simple, they try to stick with just a few dishes and try to do them exceptionally well. In Beast's case, it is a super premium restaurant that specialising in Norwegian king crab and fine steak. What a super combo it is, I am a big crab fan and unfortunately there aren't that many crab restaurants in London, and I am total faith in its steak as I know too well from my previous steak dinner at Goodman.

First, we had the Sicilian red prawns, served raw with the body shells removed. What can I say, the prawns were a thing of beauty, sweet and an almost jelly like texture with a tone of freshness, almost as good as some of the top prawns dishes from Barcelona. The main show of the day was the steamed Norwegian king crab, it was really fresh and the meat had a soft and rich taste to it. To finish off this unusual dinner we had the Chateaubriand steak, cooked medium rare. As expected, it was super moist and tender, almost cut like butter. It had the perfect seasoning and tasted like meat heaven with the truffle sauces to really bring out that luxurious earthy flavour.

Beast's quality can not be questioned, they have delivered by far the best crab dish as far as the London standard. However, the two major questions for me is the decor and the price. They only have sharing tables and benches for diners so do expect sitting with strangers which is not always ideal. Also, regarding the cost, you will be looking paying at least £100pp with wine and that is fine dining territory. Will I rather have a tasting menu with a glass of wine in a 1 Michelin starred restaurant for the same price? The answer is a yes 9 out of 10 times. Beast is unique, there aren't quite any places out there in London does anything like them and the food was top notch, but the price and the restricted decor can be an issue for some.
