5 years later, Roganic, by Simon Rogan is back in London again as a permanent restaurant, located in Marylebone, where the Michelin starred L'autre Pied used to beat. I first experienced Simon's cooking in his pop up back in 2013 and it was such a mind-blowing experience, his style of cuisine was so unusual and made humble ingredients such as carrots and spring onions taste like heaven. I was so happy when I have discovered Roganic is back in town and I wasted no time in booking a table. The restaurant offers put tasting menu on the central stage, with snacks after snacks before the main courses, followed by multi courses of desserts, just how I like it.

The menu kicked off with a preserved raspberry tart, looked like a dessert but it had a mixture of grassy, sweet and bitter flavour from the beetroot which makes it a great canape to lighten up my taste bud. The raw beef and kohlrabi dumpling was a sensational dish, it was full of earthy and smoky taste from the coal oil and just the right level of spices. The scallop ceviche was another beautiful dish, the frozen gooseberry somehow worked like a charm with the sweetness of the scallop, it was topped with the refreshing apples which made the dish so clean but blessed with powerful flavours at the same time. The main event of dry aged duck was so moist that a steak knife was not needed, the seasoning was spot on and the only issue I had was that the piece of meat was too small!

The tasting menu experience was truly special, Roganic delivered dish after dish of strange but beautiful plates of cooking. The menu concept was very creative and challenge your taste-bud with a strange combination of ingredients with clean and refine presentation. Simon's cooking is so unique that is hard to a find a  single word to describe it. Roganic is totally worth a visit for any serious foodies that always look out for edgy and creative cuisine. On top of that, the service was as good as you get, very caring but casual and informal at the same time. It is so good to have Simon back in town, welcome back!
